Dickinson County CHARACTER COUNTS! has established an executive board with four executive officers and five task force representatives (membership, marketing, communication, schools and training.) Dickinson County CHARACTER COUNTS! is in the process of completing the first county wide Project of CHARACTER, working with "Kids Against Hunger" to be completed by May 4, 2007. This initiative plans to provide county wide Projects of CHARACTER, to offer CHARACTER Trainings as needed and to recognized citizens who are showing Good CHARACTER!
**Okoboji Community schools were notified that the school district has been named one of four "Schools of Character" in the state of Iowa! Dignitaries from the Institute for Character Development and Iowa Department of Education visited Okoboji High School in Milford to present the award and banner for display. Former Governor Robert Ray along with Scott Raecker, executive director for the Institute for Character Development spoke to the group of over 900 present at the ceremony.
**Dickinson County CHARACTER COUNTS! Membership Kickoff was held Monday, July 23 at the Maritime Museum in Arnolds Park. Our goal, on our journey to become the first County of Character is to promote good character in three ways....by offering various countywide projects of character where people of all ages have an opportunity to work together to make a difference...by meeting the needs of businesses and organizations through awareness training programs that share the six pillars of character (Trustworthy, Respect, Responsible, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship)...and by recognizing thsoe individuals, organizations and businesses who are sharing their good character.

You will receive a Dickinson County CHARACTER COUNTS! folder with information about our five Task Force Teams along with window clings you can display showing your alliance in promoting good character. You will also be informed of all upcoming events, trainings and progress made on our journey to become the first County of Character! All funds are used to grow Character Counts! awareness right here in Dickinson County.
**Looking for a great way to get involved with Dickinson County CHARACTER COUNTS? We encourage you to join one of our five active Task Force Teams:
COMMUNICATION: develop communication ideas, speak with groups on behalf of DCCC!, share six pillars of character with public rec programs
MEMBERHSIP: recruit members, help in fundraising efforts, provide ongoing feedback from members
MARKETING: develop marketing plan for Dickinson County, work on progress of website, develop ongoing relationship with area media (radio, newspaper, TV, magazines, etc), create numerous ways to promote DCCC!
SCHOOLS: serve as point of contact between schools and DCCC!, coordinate countywide projects in schools, involve youth, parents, and area residents, develop ideas for Character Counts! week in October
TRAINING: develop and offer training programs and awareness ideas for businesses, organizations, corporations and individuals as needed in Dickinson County, work with statewide CC! training programs offered from the Institute of Character Development at Drake University.
